We invite all sun seekers, yoga enthusiasts, nature lovers and adventurers, to explore Mama Africa with us!

Experience the richness and diversity of South Africa during this exclusive yoga holiday in the city of Cape Town and the wilderness of the Western Cape region.

The retreat will take place during South Africa’s Spring season which runs from September to November. At this time of year the abundance of wild flowers endemic to the South African Cape Floral Kingdom are at their most splendid.

Enjoy daily yoga practices, delicious food experiences, hiking, swimming, and exclusively curated events and excursions, including an overnight safari, all with a small group of like-minded people.

The first three days of the trip will be spent at a boutique hotel in the Hout Bay area which is a quiet secluded part of the city, close to the mountain and beach, surrounded by nature. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, you will have time to arrive, acclimatise and relax. We will practice optional yoga every day and there will be different excursions organised for you to explore the city of Cape Town, and Table Mountain National Park which surrounds this unique city destination.

On day four of our Western Cape adventure we will embark on an exciting road trip to Aquila Safari lodge, a private game reserve with hotel and spa in the Klein Karoo desert region. Here you will have the chance to go on two safari drives out into the reserve to see four of the ‘Big Five’ (Lion, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo) as well as, several species of African antelope, Zebra, Hippos, Ostriches and Giraffe!  Optional Horse Back Safari, Quad Biking and spa treatments are also available at the lodge.

After our overnight stay at the lodge we will continue our adventure, taking a drive to the Cederberg Mountain region, to visit a unique luxury glamping retreat nestled in the African wilderness called Planet Xancara. Here we will enjoy quality hospitality by our hostess Kelly and the property owner Joachim, who is also the in-house chef.

At Xancara we leave the tourist trail behind and will take time out for three days to retreat into nature, relax, rejuvenate, practice yoga and meditate in an idyllic African wilderness. Expect to enjoy an early morning moderate hike to ancient Khoisan cave paintings at Diepkloof rock shelter, which is part of the Cradle of Humankind archeological project. Also on the itinerary are some unique outdoor yoga spaces, spa treatments, a sunset picnic, three delicious home cooked meals a day, wide open landscapes and lots of time in between to relax. While at Xancara we will take time to rest deeply and enjoy the serenity of this very unique, remote location.

After a three night stay at Xancara we continue our journey and return to Cape Town. On the way we will stop off at the !Khwa ttu San Culture and Education Centre to find out more about the Khoisan people, the indigenous first peoples of South Africa.

Once we are back in Cape Town we will have time to relax during an overnight stay at a sea front hotel, do last minute shopping and enjoy a celebratory farewell dinner before returning home or travelling on to our next accommodation.

About Your Retreat leader and Yoga Instructor

Amrita Jules spent the first half of her life in Southern Africa having grown up in Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital city. She also lived in Cape Town for three years while studying at the University of Cape Town. She has a deep love for this part of the world and has returned countless times over the years since she moved to Europe and U.K. in the early 2000’s. Amrita sees herself as a global citizen. Her dream is to invite people to experience South Africa in a safe environment and supportive group and to give people a life changing glimpse into a country that she loves deeply.

Amrita currently teaches yoga in Brighton and West Sussex and has taught yoga locally and internationally on retreats in the UK, Turkey and the Netherlands. This would be the second retreat she leads in South Africa. She has been a regular teacher at the Yoga Garden Studio for over 10 years and has facilitated workshops for the Yoga Garden Teacher Training. She is passionate about, travel, retreats, arts and culture. She recently completed the Retreat Creators leadership course with Jools Sampson and Jean Hall of Reclaim Yourself, a leading UK retreat company, to refine her retreat offerings.

Amrita will be collaborating with a local teacher based in Cape Town, to provide you with a variety of high quality yoga classes.

Morning yoga classes will be more dynamic and energising  and include vinyasa yoga.

Evening classes will be more contemplative and restorative.

Generally we will practice yoga once a day as it fits with the excursion itinerary. We will mainly practice in the mornings, but on one or two days it will be in the afternoon or evening.

We will offer a mix of vinyasa yoga, workshop style classes, Embodiment practices, Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra. All classes will be taught to an eclectic playlist of devotional, world, ambient and electronic music.

The yoga classes are designed for all levels of yoga experience, from beginners to advanced. We will endeavour to cater for the specific requirements of individuals on the retreat meaning that everyone will be considered in creating the yoga sequencing.

FOOD & ALCOHOL

FOOD

As we are staying in hotels and resorts during the retreat, the cuisine will be open for all of your dietary choices i.e. vegetarians, vegans , pescatarians, as well as omnivores are all welcome. Generally all venues are able to provide for your dietary requirements, however please note that South Africa is still catching up with the rest of the world and not all venues provide gluten or dairy free options, so we may need to purchase gluten free bread or plant-based milks for you from local health food shops as the venues might not cater for this

ALCOHOL:

As we are exploring one of the most amazing wine regions in the world it would be a shame not to sample the wines, however we do ask that you keep your level of alcohol consumption to a minimum throughout the retreat.
